Waypointing
Introducing waypointing
Waypointing is a new feature which aims to improve Automap results. New operations using Automap have waypointing enabled by default, but for consistency of output between pipeline runs, existing operations have waypointing disabled by default. It can be toggled-on in the Automap settings in Map Values.

About waypointing

Automap Values uses text similarity matching to automate mappings. The results can then be approved or remapped in the Mapping Report. When waypointing is enabled, Automap will learn from previous mappings that have been approved or remapped to inform the automapping of similar values. For example, if a mapping from ‘Timber’ to ‘Wood’ is approved, the similar value ‘Timbr’ is likely to map to ‘Wood’ in the next pipeline run.

Example: standardise construction type

Example: map address to construction code

Waypointing enables Automap Values to be used for mapping source values to a set of reference values which have no text similarity. For example, mapping an Address to a Construction Code.

Using waypointing

All newly created operations have waypointing enabled by default. To disable or enable waypointing, click the waypointing toggle in the bottom right of the Automap settings in Map Values.
Any mappings which have been approved or remapped in the Mapping Report will be used as waypoints in the next pipeline run.
When a waypoint has been used in an automapping, the waypoint value will be shown in the right hand column of the mapping report. Click on the info button that appears on hovering the row to view the full value.
When a waypoint has been used, the match strength indicates the similarity of the ‘Map from’ value to the waypoint value.
An automapping which has used a waypoint may be approved or remapped in the same way as any other automapping.
